4/5/13 - Leslie junk fire, 4375 S. Williamston Rd
Shortly before 1 PM on Friday, April 5, 2013, the Leslie Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire on S. Williamston Rd. Responding personnel observed heavy black smoke from a distance. When firefighters arrived, the grass fire had extended to a yard filled with piles and stacks of various stored materials including vehicles, parts and wood. A semi trailer used for storage of household items also was involved. The stubborn fire did not go down easily and mutual aid was requested for grass rigs and tankers from Dansville and Stockbridge (SAESA) to assist. It took over two hours to extinguish the fire, which required generous applications of foam.
