12/31/13 - Delhi Twp house fire, 975 N. Eifert Rd
Shortly after 1 PM on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, the Delhi Township Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 975 N. Eifert Rd. A neighbor was calling reporting an attached garage fully involved. The Windsor Township Fire Department was also being dispatch on automatic aid, but command immediately requested the Mason Fire Department with a full assist because Delhi firefighters were currently handling 3 medical runs in the township. Nearby police units confirmed a working fire and assisted the occupants out of the structure prior to FD arrival. When firefighters arrived, there was evidence of heavy extension into the home, so command took a defensive strategy. Initial lines were pulled to stop the fire spread into the home and when 2nd due Mason firefighters arrived they were directed to begin attack on the main fire. The fire continued to progress through the attic spaces of the house, so Truck 21 was requested to respond for aerial operations. Additional mutual aid was requested from Onondaga, Eaton Rapids Township & Dansville for tankers and manpower. Command also requested a CATA bus respond for firefighter warming and rehab. After a long battle to extinguish the fire, the structure was considered too unstable to be left unattended. A backhoe was requested from the DPW to knock down unstable walls and open up areas that hoselines could not reach. There were no reported injuries.
