5/25/12 - Rives-Tompkins Twp house fire, 5418 Rives Eaton Rd
At Approximately 6 PM on Friday, May 25, 2012, the Rives-Tompkins Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 5418 Rives Eaton Rd. A garage behind the house was completely involved in fire with extension into the home. Mutual aid was requested for a full assist from the Onondaga Fire Department. The garage was completely destroyed and an interior attack was attempted in the home, but crews were unable to access all the walls and attic spaces to stop the hidden fire. As the incident progressed, additional mutual aid was requested from the Leslie and Henrietta Twp fire departments for tankers and manpower, as well as the Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad for air tank refills. Firefighters alternated between exterior and interior attacks until the fire was finally brought under control. Onondaga's draft truck set up a fill site from a bridge over the Grand River just down the road. They were able to pump by large diameter hose to supply the use of an aerial master stream while filling a rotation of tankers which supplied the handlines off two pumpers.
