5/26/12 - Mason double extrication, 5300 block of W. Columbia Rd
The Mason Fire Department, Lansing-Mason Ambulance Service and Ingham County Sheriff Rescue Squad were dispatched to a serious traffic accident on Columbia Rd west of Onondaga Rd on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 11:08 PM. Two vehicles had collided head on and were separated by several hundred feet with the driver of each vehicle needing extrication. 1st arriving command from the Sheriff's Department requested Mason Fire to approach from the west and Sheriff Rescue to approach from the east to begin rescue of the victims. A helicopter was also requested to transport the most seriously injured driver. Mason firefighters sent a crew to set up an LZ while primary extrication was begun on a van and personnel assisted Sheriff Rescue with extrication on a pickup truck. Once extrication was completed of the driver of the van, that crew and equipment was reassigned to work on the pickup truck as well. Both vehicles required driver's side door removals and a dashlift to free the victims. A total of 3 patients were transported, one by Lifenet helicopter and two by Lansing-Mason Ambulance Service.
