3/11/12 - Mason grass fire, 740 Plains Rd
On Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 2:37 PM, the Mason Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire at 740 Plains Rd. When fire personnel arrived, the fire had already burned quickly through a field of dry grass and a gusty wind was driving it towards a swampy area to the north and a wooded area to the northeast. The initial attack was focused on keeping the fire out of the woods and progressed across the north head to stop the spread in the swamp. As more personnel arrived on scene, the south edge of the fire was extinguished on foot. The fire extended into areas used for dumping, which made overhaul more difficult. Mutual aid grass rig and manpower assisted from the Leslie Fire Department.
