12/24/12 - Leslie multi-car crash, US-127 @ MM 59
An afternoon line of snow showers on Christmas Eve caught many travelers unaware of the dangerous driving conditions. At around 3:20 PM, the Leslie Fire Department was dispatched to a possible pin in accident on US-127 at mile marker 59. Personnel arrived finding no one trapped but had to assess people from many vehicles that were involved in crashes along this stretch of the highway. Command requested mutual aid from the Mason Fire Department to close the southbound lanes of traffic until the accidents could be cleared. While setting up a traffic diversion point, a Mason Fire Department command vehicle was struck by a southbound car at the Barnes Rd exit. The northound lanes also had to be closed as more slide offs and rollovers continued. Fortunately, only very minor injuries occured and no patients required transport. It took nearly two hours to clear and fully reopen the highway.
