7/30/11 - Flint house fire, 621 E. Dewey St
While all Flint Fire Department personnel were already spread thin with two other fires, a third house fire was reported at 621 E. Dewey St around 6:40 PM on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Flint Fire Engine 81 cleared one fire scene while Squad 1 and Battalion cleared another to respond to this call. The first arriving engine crew reported a two story vacant house with heavy fire on the first floor. The available manpower resources at the scene did not allow for a safe interior attack, so Flint firefighters knocked down what fire they could from the outside while waiting for mutual aid crews that had been called. Firefighters were already beat from the two other simultaneous fires and conditions continued to deteriorate as extension into the second floor was becoming evident. Mutual aid engines arrived from Mt. Morris Township and an attack crew was quickly put in place to knock down what fire was left inside. Flushing firefighters arrived shortly after to assist. A Flint firefighter was injured when the front porch steps collpased under him and other firefighters were evaluated for heat related injuries. Three ambulances reponded to this scene with rigs from MMR and DVA. Two firefighters were transported by EMS.
