5/11/10 - NIESA/Leroy Twp House fire, 3900 E. Grand River

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 12:51 PM, firefighters from the Leroy Twp Fire Department were dispatched to a possible house fire at 3900 E. Grand River which was being called in by a neighbor across the street. Fire command arrived within 4 minutes to report heavy smoke conditions from a single story ranch style house and requested mutual aid for tankers and manpower from Dansville, Fowerlerville & Williamston fire departments. Leroy Engine 618 arrived a short time later and began an interior attack on the structure, which was under control quickly. Personnel were on scene for several hours performing extensive overhaul operations. Firefighters were also required to stand by for a couple hours just a few hundred feet down the road with some downed primary power lines until Detroit Edison arrived to handle the problem. Power to the entire Williamston area, west of the fire scene, was out for hours.
