7/14/10 - East Lansing apartment building fire, 1840 West Shore Dr

Around 4:30 PM on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, the East Lansing Fire Department was dispatched to 1840 West Shore Dr for a report of a deck smoldering from careless use of smoking materials. Within minutes the response was upgraded to a structure fire when police on scene reported fire burning up the wall on the outside of the building. Battalion 11, Truck 11, Truck 111, Truck 12 and Medic 12 responded on the alarm, command reported smoke showing on arrival. Interior crews started pulling the ceiling and found extension into the attic. Additional interior access was made to attack the fire and check for extension as crews on the outside vented the roof. Command requested mutual aid manpower from the Lansing Fire Department which sent Battalion 41, Engine 48 and Truck 48. An aggressive attack prevented this fire from gaining control of the attic space. Heat and humidity took a toll on firefighters, one person was transported by Medic 12 for heat related problems.
