6/18/10 - East Lansing house fire, 980 Longfellow Dr
A morning house fire in East Lansing on Friday, June 18, 2010, caused extensive damage to a home at 980 Longfellow Dr and sent 3 firefighters to the hospital with injuries. The East Lansing Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire from the garage with extension into the attached 2 story residence. With all available crews going to work, and off duty callbacks not yet in service, mutual aid was requested from Meridian Township for a RIT crew. A "Mayday" was called when 2 personnel received serious injuries from a fall from the roof and at about the same time a 3rd firefighter was suffering from heat exhaustion. This taxed available manpower even more as these serious injuries were treated and transported by fire department EMS on scene. Mutual aid was called for an additional ambulance and 2 engines from the Lansing Fire Department to assist with transport of the injured and manpower to continue firefighter operations. An additional ambulance from Lansing responded at the request of their command for EMS standby. Firefighters were on the scene for several hours before the fire was declared out.
