5/13/10 - Mason barn fire, 4180 Toles Rd
On Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 4:01 PM, the Mason Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a barn fire with smoke and flames showing at 4180 Toles Rd. Dispatch reports stated there were a variety of hazards on the building including fuels, vehicles, machinery and compressed gas cylinders. Mutual aid was requested while units were still responding. First arriving command units found a large pole barn structure with heavy smoke showing throughout and multiple exposures on three sides with one being a small pole barn attached to the "C-D" corner. Exposures were the primary concern, then firefighters began attacking from the "A" side of the barn. As mutual aid manpower and tankers arrived, additional attack lines were stretched along the "B" and "D" sides. Firefighters entered a breezeway attachment to the pole barn on the "C-D" corner to prevent additional fire spread into that building. The roof on the rear half of the barn collapsed into the structure making difficult access to hidden pockets of fire. Mason firefighters had mutual aid assistance from the Dansville, Delhi Township, Eaton Rapids Township, Leslie & Onondaga fire departments.
