3/7/10 - Lansing 2nd alarm commercial building fire, 412 E Elm
Sunday, March 7, 2010 at around 4:50 AM, Lansing firefighters were called to a report of a commercial structure fire near the corner of Elm & Cedar. First arriving Battalion 41 found fire showing from the front of a auto repair facility with the rest of the large concrete block commercial building enveloped in heavy smoke. A 2nd alarm was immediately requested. Cracking and failing walls on the "A" and "B" side walls made this a defensive strategy. 4 aerial devices were set up covering all access points to the fire building. Master hose streams were deployed and doors were forced. Extremely long large diameter hoselays were present in order to supply all pumps with adequate water pressure. Mobile, aggressive attack lines contained the fire to the business of origin and kept it from breaching through the roof. Apparatus responding on the first alarm: Engine 41, 43, 45 - Truck 41, 48 - Battalion 41, 49. On the second alarm: Engine 47, 48 - Truck 44. Relief crews rotated in at the morning shift change for overhaul and picking up.
