9/13/14 - East Lansing house fire, State Rd & Coolidge Rd
Shortly before 11 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2014, a passing police unit reported a fully involved structure fire in an isolated area near the intersection of Coolidge & State Rds. East Lansing firefighters immediately responded but had difficulty finding access to the structure. A gated driveway which went over 1/4 of a mile off from the 2900 block of State Rd was found to lead to the burning 2 story house which had already mostly collapsed when firefighters got to it. Mutual aid was requested from the Lansing Fire Department for an engine and truck company to assist. 23 sections of large diameter hose were reverse laid from the house to the closest hydrant, using all the available supply line from East Lansing's apparatus and almost the entire bed of Lansing's engine. Lansing Engine 48 pumped from the hydrant to East Lansing's Truck 12, which relay pumped up the driveway to East Lansing Engine 11. Engine 11 supplied a deck gun and several 2 1/2 inch hand lines for personnel to extinguish what was left of the house. The home had been vacant for years and the cause of the fire is considered suspicious.
